Concert Tickets

Jim asked me to get online this morning to get concert tickets for Rush. If you're like me and don't listen to that kind of music, you probaby only know Rush from that Tom Sawyer song. :) As I was waiting anxiously (or maybe not) for the online sale to start at 9am, I was thinking about some of the concerts I've been to in the past. I have to say that I haven't been to a concert in a while. I did see Elton John a few years ago and I saw Duran Duran at Amsouth (Starwood) before they shut it down. Yes, I said Duran Duran- 20 years after their fame- ha!

I was thinking back on some of the concerts I went to in high school and college and remembering some of them made me crack up! In college I went with 5 other girls- we drove 3 hours- to see Milli Vanilli (I don't even know if I spelled that correctly)- yeah baby, I said Milli Vanilli. Young MC and the all girls group Seduction opened for them.

I let this guy I worked with talk me into seeing this 90's hair band called Warrant-- yuck!

I sat in the rain and mud on the lawn at Starwood (Amsouth) to see Billy Joel- ok let me rephrase that- to hear Billy Joel- you can't really see him from that far back. :)

I saw Rick Springfield in concert in Knoxville in his "Jessie's Girl" days.

So who did you see in your younger years? Anybody that just makes you laugh out loud when you remember it? Can you top Milli Vanilli? :)

7 Interesting Facts About Myself

Audrey tagged me to do this so here goes...
1. My parents adopted me when I was two months old. My name was Katherine before they changed it to Susan.
2. I hate feet, all feet, even my own. Something about them just creeps me out. I don't even like for Jim to put his feet on me. Ok- I don't hate baby feet- they're sweet. :)
3. I can touch my nose with my tongue.
4. I played intramural flag football in college.
5. I LOVE scary movies- not gory, slice and dice but more psychological thrillers and love to read Dean Koontz and Stephen King
6. I write right handed but do everything else- batting, bowling, catching, throwing, golfing- left handed.
7. I'm much better at the written word than the spoken one.

One Case of the Flu, An Evening of Severe Weather, And A Day Off School Gets You...

Valentine's crafts :)

We took Aidan to the doctor Tuesday and he has the flu. He felt pretty rotten Tuesday. Tuesday evening we had some very severe weather in our area. Avery was a little freaked out by it and could not go to sleep Tuesday night. At about 10pm we all ended up in our bathroom (its the innermost room in our house) in the bathtub listening to the high winds and the hail, praying that it would pass soon. I'm thinking if we didn't already have the flu, I bet we will-- all of us piled in the tub with Aidan breathing on us. :) The second round of storms came through about 2:30am or so. I was up but everyone else was alseep thankfully. Jim got up for work Wednesday morning and I got up to see that Sumner County schools were closed. I thought surely both boys would sleep in since it had been such a late night for Avery and Aidan was feeling bad- wrong. Everyone was up by 7am.

So here's what we did since we couldn't go anywhere because Aidan was sick. Memaw and Papaw you can thank those three things in the title for your homemade Valentines. :)

Raspberry-Apple Nut Salad

4 slices bacon (you can use turkey bacon if you prefer)
1 bag baby veggie spring salad mix (such as Fresh Express from Kroger)
1 Gala or Golden Delicious apple cored and sliced
1 cup fresh raspberries
1/2 cup apple and cinnamon flavored glazed walnuts (such as Emerald brand)
1/3 cup raspberry vinaigrette

In a medium skillet cook bacon until crisp. Remove from pan and place on towel lined plate to cool
In a large salad bowl, combine greens, apple slices, raspberries and walnuts. Gently toss with dressing. Crumble bacon over salad and serve.

The Bible

I'm not as familiar with the Bible as I'd like to be- I'm working on that. That's the reason I LOVE it when people share verses from the Bible that are very dear to them. You know- that verse(s) you go to when you need comfort or inspiration.

Mine is Romans 5:1-5

"Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so but we rejoice in our sufferings, becasue we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. Happy Birthday Daddy

Every year the boys and I make Jim a birthday cake. They love doing it. I let them pick out whatever they want to use to decorate. Each year the decorations get a little crazier. :) This year Jim's cake comes complete with Dots, sweetarts, gummi bears, and meringue candies.(yummy!) Don't worry we'll pull that off before actually eating it. Happy Birthday Daddy- We love you!
