Cocoa Beach, FL

We just got back from a week of family fun in sunny Florida. I have to say we LOVED every minute of it. We packed a lot into our week. We stopped off in Orlando on our way down and made a visit to Downtown Disney. We decided not to do Disneyworld this year but to do a few things in Orlando that we maybe wouldn't have time to squeeze in with all that is Disneyworld. The boys were excited beyond words to see the huge Lego store. The statues that the boys are standing in front of are made completely of legos. Avery had some birthday money and both boys had allowance money that they have been saving for quite some time so we made a few purchases at the lego store.

We visited Once Upon a Toy where the boys competed in an intense Star Wars Mr Potato Head race. Aidan won with his Princess Leia Potato Head. We had to make a quick detour because in the center of this store, there was a section where you could assemble your very own light saber (and that was not cheap).

Sea World was our next stop. I don't really know what I was expecting from Sea World. I knew it would be fun but I have to say it may very well have been my favorite thing. The boys loved it Well all except for the Journey To Atlantis ride. The hill was a little too extreme.

We had some fun time at the beach and at the pool. Cocoa Beach was a nice place to stay. It wasn't very touristy but still had enough for us to do. We had a little excitement with our hotel and ended up not staying at the hotel we had booked online.

Our trip to Kennedy Space Center was fun too. The boys were a little hesitant about the space center because we had been to the Space Center in Huntsville. They liked the Huntsville one but I think thought it was going to be the same thing. It was definitely not. If you go any where near Cape Canaveral I think the Kennedy Space Center is a must see. It was amazing.

We made a trip back to Orlando to do the Sea World water park (it was its first year open) Aquatica. Lots of slides and fun things to do for all ages. We all got a little toasted in the sun even though we lathered on the sunscreen over and over. Avery said this was his favorite part of the trip.

We stopped off at City Walk which is Universal Studios equivalent of Downtown Disney. They had the moving walkways coming from the parking structure to City Walk and Aidan says that those are his favorite part of the vacation (go figure!).

We are home now and unpacking. Jim and I are feeling a little like we need a vacation from our vacation. :) We were wondering if this is how most parents of little kids feel after vacation. We always play hard on our vacations and try to pack it all in but that's the way we like it for now with the kiddos. What about you guys? Do you play hard on vacation or do you try to make it relaxing?

Looks like you all had a GREAT time. The pictures are fantastic. And you gave a good summary of everywhere you went. Kudos! I'm sure the kids loved Sea World. My girls would too. I am assuming you drove. . . how was that with two kids? Quite a distance, huh? Glad you are back!

Great pictures and recap. I love the one of you guys in your matching outfits. It sounds like you guys had a BLAST! I know you're all pretty wiped. We ALWAYS come home from vacation needing a vacation. We've learned to leave a little time at the end to unwind before "life" starts again. Glad you're back!

OH so fun and relaxing!! Ha,ha! I am glad you guys had fun- I agree, sometimes taking little ones it is just not much of a vacation. But it is still vacation and nice to get away! I love all the photos you captured and the smiles on those cute little faces! I have missed you! I am so glad you guys got away though-
When you go down to Orlando, there is just not much resting- there is just too much to do. Last year we went to Rosemary Beach, and it was one of the best trips we have ever been on- we totally relaxed and were so laid back and didn't do anything unless it was close to our condo due to having a 13 month old! But it was great. To answer your question, We tend to go for the more relaxing vacations, but we are entertaining the disney thing for the fall. This is our last fall to vacate before school starts, so we are taking advantage of going off season with cheaper rates, less crowds, etc. It is wonderful and gives us something to look forward to. Anyway- great post and pics! The waterpark looks like so much fun!

Y'all look as though you had the best time. The kids and I used to go to Disney during Spring Break all of the time because Phillip was in Orlando for the Braves Spring Training. Then Brett's high school baseball schedule interfered. Anyway, Downtown Disney is great fun. My kids liked the Lego area too. The best time we had at Disney was our last time there. Britnee and Brett brought friends with them and my brother Jody went with us. No crowds and just the best time. We did not plan to stay long but we ended up staying 12 hours! Great memories for the kids and Uncle Jody! I like to pack it all in with my family. I figure when both kids are out of the house, we can have all the relaxing vacations we want with just the two of us.

Amy and Mandy- I e-mailed back a response to you but I don't know if it will get to you because the e-mail address says Amy lafayette@ no reply blogger.. etc
Yes, Amy we did drive and it was a looooooooong drive but the boys did really well. It was just too expensive to fly even with gas being so expensive.
Mandy- I am so with you on doing Disney in a non peak time. When we do Disney it will definitely not be in the summer. :)
